IUI in 2016: The beginning of our Journey

Greetings, and welcome back for the beginning of our IUI Journey!

Continuation From Previous Post

As a continuation from my previous post, during that period, my husband and I decided to pursue an intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycle.

What is IUI?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) that involves placing sperm directly into a woman’s uterus in order to increase the chances of pregnancy. This procedure is commonly used for couples who are experiencing fertility issues, such as low sperm count, cervical mucus problems, or unexplained infertility. IUI can also be used as part of fertility treatments for individuals or couples using donor sperm or those undergoing fertility preservation techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or egg freezing. The procedure is typically less invasive and less expensive than other ART options and can be a good first step for those seeking fertility treatment.

Our Protocol

Our protocol involved arriving at the clinic on the day of the IUI procedure, where my husband provided his sample for insemination. Following this, I returned to the clinic approximately two hours later for the insemination itself. These appointments generally proceeded smoothly.

Three Failed IUI Attempts

Regrettably, our efforts to conceive proved unsuccessful. Despite undergoing our initial Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) cycle in July 2016, along with subsequent attempts in August and September of the same year, none resulted in a pregnancy. The substantial toll on us physically, emotionally, and mentally due to these unsuccessful cycles was undeniable. Following thoughtful deliberation, we opted to take a hiatus from the fertility treatment process.
