Beijing’s government announced that it will cover 16 types of assisted reproduction technology from July 1 under its new healthcare system
Just some of the treatments that will be available include embryo transplantation, freezing and storing semen and IVF.
The news comes as Chia recorded its first population drop in 60 years. The number of babies born dropped to 6.77 per 1,000 in 2022 and is is not expected to rise in 2023.
Guidance was issued by the China’s National Health Commission last August about the reform of fertility policies to each of the provinces.
The proposals were put forward in March by political advisors that single and unmarried women should have access to egg freezing and IVF treatment.
This has previously been difficult for unmarried women in China to access any fertility treatments due to a rule that they must be married before they can access it.
The hope is that by relaxing the rules when it comes to single and unmarried women could have a positive affect on the country’s fertility rates.
