Dupart took to Instagram to defend her decision, explaining that she had difficulty finding a black sperm donor that met her criteria. She stated that she wanted a donor who was tall, intelligent, and had a successful career. However, she found that most of the black donors available were either not tall enough, did not have the level of intelligence she desired, or did not have successful careers.
Dupart’s comments shed light on a larger issue within the black community. The shortage of black sperm donors is a problem that has been ongoing for many years. This is due in part to the stigma surrounding sperm donation within the black community and a lack of education about the process.
According to a 2016 article by The Guardian, black donors account for just 4% of all sperm donors in the UK. In the US, black donors make up just 5% of all donors, according to the Sperm Bank of California.
The lack of black donors has led to a situation where black women who want to conceive through sperm donation have limited options. Many have to resort to using sperm from white or other non-black donors, which can be a difficult decision for them to make.
We turned to our sperm donation experts at Xytex and asked them if they have a shortage of black donors and how they are trying to raise awareness to encourage more black men to donate. They told us:
“We currently have 14 black donors on our website. Given the industry-wide shortage, we are really proud of this ever-increasing number. We are continually working to improve recruitment efforts to create the most diverse donor pool possible for our clients.”
Jesseca Dupart’s comments have highlighted a larger issue within the black community regarding the shortage of black sperm donors. It is important to continue to raise awareness about this issue and encourage more black men to consider becoming sperm donors.
