Heather Rae El Moussa reflects on emotional IVF journey

Selling Sunset reality television star Heather Rae El Moussa has revealed she wants to talk about her fertility journey to help others on a similar path

The 35-year-old told US Weekly: “There are so many issues that aren’t talked about. It can be a stressful and sad thing that women go through. There are so many girls in my life that had miscarriages or IVF issues and it wasn’t talked about and I know they felt really alone.

“So since I had a platform to discuss things – I’d rather share things to help other women than keep it private.”

Heather welcomed her son Tristan with her husband Tarek El Moussa in January 2023 following an extensive fertility journey that ended when she fell pregnant naturally.

She said: “I know that me sharing my story did touch other women through it. I’m always here to help and that’s why I want to use my platform to help as many other people as possible. I was lucky I got pregnant naturally, but I do have embryos saved and we were planning on implanting the embryos but then I got pregnant with Tristan.

“That was a huge shock. I did not think I’d be able to get pregnant on my own.”

She said they were still planning on what to do with the embryos.

Heather discovered in her early 20s that she possibly had low fertility but could not afford to freeze her eggs at the time, and as she was not in a relationship, she resigned herself that she might not be able to have children.

When she met her husband and she revealed she wanted to be a mother despite for fertility status and they set about doing egg freezing.

She said the IVF process took its toll on her.

She said: “You’re pumping yourself full of hormones and giving yourself shots.

“That is scary enough, and you’re swollen and bruised.

“Tarek was incredible through it and so were Brayden and Taylor (her stepchildren). I don’t think I could have done it alone. It’s too emotional and too painful. Then some embryos don’t make it and that is really hard too.”

When asked what advice she would give to others on a similar road, she advised them to open up and talk to their family and friends.

She said: “Find a good support system, be it your mum, sister, friends, or husband. Do your research on doctors and clinics. That really helped me with the process.”
