Jersey fertility support charity to offer £400 in travel expenses

A charity based in Jersey which supports those who need fertility treatment has announced it will offer financial support to those travelling off the island

Tiny Seeds, founded by Jersey resident Chloe Fosse, will offer grants of £400 to those who might otherwise struggle to cover travel and accommodation costs.

The grants have been made possible by the Jersey Community Foundation and Dormant Bank Accounts, according to the charity.

Chloe told the BBC: “Travel for IVF, due to the nature of the treatment, can only be booked last minute and, as a result, is often very expensive and added stress to an already stressful experience.

“We are pleased that, with the generous support of the Jersey Community Foundation, we can now play a small part in helping with the financial struggle too.”

A recent survey by the charity found that 56 respondents spent about £15,000 on IVF and an average of £2,768 towards travel and accommodation costs. Many had taken on debt to afford the treatment.

The JCF said it was happy to provide funds due to the lack of IVF provision on the island, and the added stress of needing to travel off the island incurred more expense, time and stress.
