For those avoiding alcohol this Christmas why not try making this fertility-friendly sparkling Clementine and Pomegranate mocktail?
Clementines are high in vitamin C, which aids in hormone maintenance and regulation, which is essential for regulating menstrual cycles and improving ovulation. Vitamin C is also beneficial to sperm health. Clementines are also high in potassium, calcium, and folate – which aids in the regulation of ovulation, the creation of a healthy environment for eggs, and the prevention of neural tube defects in the developing foetus.
The pomegranate, one of the oldest known fruits, has long been revered as a symbol of fertility. Pomegranate is high in polyphenols and flavonoids, both of which are powerful antioxidants. They also have vitamin C, B5 (Pantothenic acid), folate, and a good amount of vitamin A, E, and fibre.
Pomegranate consumption is thought to improve and help balance oestrogen and progesterone levels in women. Pomegranates are anti-inflammatory in nature. They may also aid fertility by balancing hormones and increasing blood flow to the uterus. When compared to other fruits, pomegranate is high in zinc. Zinc has been shown to increase sperm count and quality, both of which are essential for successful conception.
