Tara Lipinski Becomes a Mother After a Five Year Battle to Conceive

Olympic gold medalist figure skater Tara Lipinski has joyfully announced the arrival of her daughter, Georgie Winter Lipinski Kapostasy

Lipinski, 41, shared the news on TODAY, revealing that Georgie was born via a surrogate.

Lipinski explained the significance behind her daughter’s name, with “Winter” paying tribute to her figure skating career, and “Lipinski” included as a third middle name. She affectionately referred to her daughter as “Gigi” as a nickname.

After struggling with infertility for years, Lipinski was present in the delivery room for her daughter’s birth. The moment was filled with overwhelming emotions and a sense of relief after a five-year journey. Holding her baby girl on her chest during skin-to-skin contact, Lipinski marveled at how her life had suddenly changed.

Lipinski and her husband, Todd Kapostasy, host a podcast called “Tara Lipinski: Unexpecting,” where they discuss their experiences with pregnancy challenges. The podcast is recorded in the basement of their home.

Their path to parenthood was marked by multiple rounds of IVF, four miscarriages, and a diagnosis of endometriosis. Initially, surrogacy was not Lipinski’s plan, as she desired to experience pregnancy firsthand. However, after enduring several obstacles and a traumatic fourth miscarriage, she eventually embraced the idea of surrogacy.

The journey was undoubtedly challenging, but Lipinski describes her surrogate as “family” and cherishes the surreal experience of finally being able to hold her baby girl in her arms.
