The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, the association of America’s fertility clinics dedicated to the practice of assisted reproductive technologies(ART), has revealed the number of egg-freezing cycles increased by more than 31 percent in the past year
The preliminary national data for 2021 shows that the number of egg-freezing cycles reported by SART-member clinics increased from 16,786 to 24,558, showing a marked increase in fertility preservation treatment in the US.
Additionally, the data shows an uptick in babies born from 73,602 in 2020 to 89,208 in 2021. This is likely the result of the 19 percent increase in total cycles performed in 2021 compared to 2020.
SART said the increased number of cycles performed may be due to both the resumption of full ART services post-COVID and the dramatic growth in the demand for fertility services. In fact, over the last six years, the total number of cycles has increased by 44 percent. Currently, over two percent of all births in the US are a result of successful ART cycles.
SART president Sangita Jindal, Ph.D., HCLD, said: “As we come out of the COVID-19 Pandemic and back into the full swing of Assisted Reproductive Technology, we are seeing that more people are taking advantage of the family-building options available to them.”
SART, The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, is an affiliate of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) with membership consisting of more than 350 clinics throughout the US.
