Hi everyone! In my previous video/post I mentioned that at my next appointment they will be performing something called uterine PRP. I really had not did the research and did not know a lot in detail about it at that time. Since then, I’ve worked to familiarize myself about what a uterine PRP is and what it consists of.
What is a uterine PRP?
A uterine PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) procedure is a medical treatment that involves using a patient’s own blood-derived platelets to promote healing and regeneration in the uterus. The patient’s own blood provides a concentrated solution of platelets known as PRP, which comprises growth factors and other bioactive substances capable of stimulating tissue repair.
Here’s a general overview of what a uterine PRP procedure typically involves:
- Consultation and Assessment: The process begins with an initial consultation with a healthcare provider specializing in reproductive medicine or gynecology. The doctor will evaluate your medical history and perform a physical examination. At this time they may request additional diagnostic tests as well. Such as ultrasound or blood work, to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
- Preparation: On the day of the procedure, the staff will ask you to arrive with an empty bladder. Before the procedure, they will draw a small blood sample from your arm, similar to a routine blood test.
- Platelet Separation: The medical staff processes the blood sample using a centrifuge machine, which spins the blood at high speeds to separate the different components. This process isolates and concentrates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood.
- Local Anesthesia: Once the PRP is prepared, a local anesthetic may be applied to the cervix to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
- Uterine Infusion: The medical professional gently introduces the concentrated PRP into the uterine cavity using a specialized catheter or ultrasound guidance. Typically, they infuse the PRP through the cervix and guide it into the uterus.
- Recovery: After the procedure, you will be observed for a short period to ensure there are no immediate complications or adverse reactions. Most patients can resume their normal activities shortly after the procedure. Although it’s advisable to avoid strenuous physical activity or sexual intercourse for a short period as recommended by your doctor.
Important to Note:
The specific details of a uterine PRP procedure may vary depending on the individual patient, the healthcare provider performing the procedure, and the underlying medical condition being treated. It’s always best to consult with a qualified healthcare professional for personalized information and guidance regarding this procedure.
