A woman who spent £40,000 on IVF to have twins said she feels blessed to have become a mother after nearly dying during labour
Tia Brown, 34, told the Daily Express said she being a mother is the best feeling in the world.
She said: “Being a mother is the best thing ever. It nearly cost me my life but it has been worth every second to have the twins with us now.”
Tia married her husband Lee in 2018 and began trying for a family straightaway, but when nothing happened after 18 months they realised something was wrong.
The couple went for tests and it revealed that Lee was fine, but Tia’s body was going through early menopause. It was devastating.
“My mum and grandma both had premature menopause but mum had been older than I was when it happened so I didn’t realise it was that.”
The couple was told that their best option was to have IVF straight away but all attempts failed because of Tia’s condition.
They were devastated by this news, but in May 2021 they decided to contact a clinic in Greece.
Tia said her experience in the UK was ‘upsetting’ and she decided to they needed a fresh start at a new clinic.
The clinic said their best form of treatment was to use donor eggs mixed with Lee’s sperm to create embryos.
Just weeks later, scans revealed the couple’s treatment had been successful and they were expecting twins.
Tia’s pregnancy went well, but after an emergency caesarian section it was discovered she had a life-threatening condition placenta accreta, meaning the placenta had grown over the cervix.
She lost five pints of blood and developed kidney failure.
Tia recovered and had a hysterectomy in July.
She couldn’t be more proud of the twins, she said: “Being a mother to twins now is worth everything we had to go through to get them. They are a double miracle.”
