A woman has revealed she has given birth to her and her husband’s first child at the age of 52
Luise Hoehn, from Massachusetts, and her partner, Dean Biele, 47, gave birth on Christmas Day after trying for a baby for six years.
According to the Metro, the couple spent nearly $170,000 dollars on IVF and donor eggs to become parents and they say they are not done yet.
Sadly, all six IVF cycles failed, and said they spent more money trying to start a family than buying a house.
The couple met in 2007 when Luise was 37, but they did not start trying for a family until she was 46.
Once they had bought a house in 2012, they began trying to conceive a child naturally, but Luise said she was naive about her fertility and did not know her fertility was all but gone by her mid-forties.
She said: “When I was 42 my doctor asked me if I would like to see an IVF specialist.
“It never occurred to me to freeze my eggs and I believed it would happen naturally, so I said no.”
After thinking she was perimenopausal at the age of 46, Luise and Dean began IVF.
Her IVF doctor told her that her best option was to use donor eggs, something she initially did not take on board and decided to use her own eggs.
Dean’s insurance paid for one and a half cycles but after that,# the couple had to pay for the treatment.
Luise said: “We are lucky to be in a position where Dean’s job afforded us the opportunity to keep trying.
In 2019, the couple found what Luise calls the perfect egg donor.
By May 2021, the couple had their first embryo transfer using the donor egg and got a positive pregnancy test.
And apart from a few symptoms, the pregnancy went well.
Baby Stellan arrived at 35 weeks weighing four pounds and 15 ounces.
Luise said: “He is the love of our lives, and he is the best decision we ever made.
“I look forward to trying another transfer so that we may have a sibling for Stellen.”
