Let’s Give It Go
IUI in addition to Clomid
In early 2020, my spouse and I decided to try for a baby once again. Our plan involved a few rounds of IUI alongside Clomid. I got my period on January 2nd and promptly scheduled an ultrasound for cycle day 13, set for January 14th. I began taking Clomid (100mg) from cycle days 3-7 and started ovulation testing on cycle day 11. The strategy was to call and arrange for IUI the following day after receiving a positive ovulation test. Unfortunately, we went through three failed IUI cycles: one in January, another in February, and one more in March. We took a break in April and May.
Even after undergoing three more failed IUI attempts, my husband and I continue to hold onto hope.
Why Clomid in addition IUI?
Clomid, or clomiphene citrate, is a medication commonly prescribed to women experiencing ovulatory issues as part of their fertility journey. When combined with Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), Clomid serves various purposes. However, it’s crucial to note that the decision to use Clomid in conjunction with IUI is based on individual circumstances, and not all couples undergoing IUI will be prescribed Clomid. Fertility specialists assess each case carefully, considering factors such as the woman’s ovarian reserve, hormonal levels, and the specific nature of fertility challenges.
As with any fertility treatment, the use of Clomid comes with potential side effects and risks, and its appropriateness should be discussed thoroughly with a healthcare provider. Monitoring during the treatment cycle is often performed to ensure the medication is used safely and effectively in supporting the fertility journey.
