Magnesium Rich Raspberry, Avocado and Spinach Smoothie

Why not begin your day with this incredible magnesium-rich smoothie? Magnesium is required for virtually every biochemical process in the body. It not only aids in heart health and diabetes prevention, but also calms the nervous system, helping to lift mood thus reducing anxiety and depression – hence it is often known as the happy mineral! It is also required for energy production and is needed to transmit nerve impulses. Magnesium is important in bone and tooth health too as it is needed to regulate calcium in the body.

This smoothie should not only help prevent cravings for snacks in the morning, but it will also ensure that your body receives the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients it needs. This smoothie will also help to stabilize sugar levels, which is vital for hormones and fertility, particularly for those with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Raspberries – all types of berries help to support fertility, but raspberries have been linked to protecting sperm from oxidative stress. Raspberries contain a high level of Vitamin C which is a key antioxidant when it comes to male and female fertility, helping to protect sperm and egg DNA. It has also been linked to helping prevent agglutination and improve sperm quality and motility. They also contain magnesium, which is involved in balancing hormones in women and in the production of testosterone helping to support male fertility- great for mood too!

Avocados – are amazing and are packed with more than 18 nutrients- including magnesium, are a good source of healthy monounsaturated fats, and contain a small amount of carbohydrates so great for helping balance sugar levels.

Spinach -also provides a good amount of magnesium along with folate, vitamin C, vitamin A, and iron.  

Raspberry, Avocado and Spinach Smoothie

What you need to make your smoothie: (makes 2)

  • 2 handfuls of baby spinach (washed)
  • 200g Raspberries – fresh or frozen
  • 2 heaped tablespoon of chia seed (contains magnesium)
  • 1 avocado
  • 200ml of milk of your choice

Whizz the ingredients in a blender. Pour over ice. Enjoy!
